Univitis honors the 80th anniversary of D-Day with a special cuvée and support for Bleuet de France

As the world commemorates with respect and gratitude the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, Univitis joins the celebrations in an exceptional way. In honor of the intrepid men who walked the beaches of Normandy in defense of freedom, we are proud to unveil a special cuvée, a vinous tribute to their indomitable courage.

This unique collection, made up of a Vin de France rosé and a Vin de France red, is not only the result of the expertise of our winemakers, but a true declaration of resilience, commitment and determination – qualities shared by the ranks of the armed forces and our vineyards.

Cuvée 1944 : a special cuvée

This symbolic cuvée is the result of the work of our hard-working, resilient, combative winegrowers, who often come up against headwinds, particularly today when they are going through a crisis in the agricultural world, but persist with a thirst for success similar to that which drives our armed forces.

This collection includes two Vins de France: a rosé and a red wine from our terroirs.

Cuvée 1944, en collaboration avec le Bleuet de France

Cuvée 1944 : Rosé

Blend : 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc

Tasting notes: This wine has a seductive nose with notes of fresh red berries. Strawberry and raspberry aromas blend subtly to create a deliciously fruity first impression. On the palate, the attack is fresh and lively.

Food & wine pairing : Enjoy between 8 and 10°C.

This wine is ideal as an aperitif, with a barbecue, a seafood platter, scallops, pasta with cockles, creamy mussels, grilled fish such as sea bass or sole meunière.

Cuvée 1944 : Rouge

Blend : 100% Malbec

Tasting notes :  An intense bouquet of black fruits. Blackberry, blackcurrant and prune aromas predominate.

Pleasant fruity notes on the palate. Round attack. The tannins are supple and well-integrated, offering a long, elegant finish.

Food & wine: To be enjoyed between 16 and 18°C.

Ideal with grilled red meat, creamy chicken with mushrooms, roast Camembert or apple pie.

Working with Le Bleuet de France

Since the end of the Second World War, the Bleuet de France association has provided psychological, material and financial support for men and women who risked their lives for France, victims of terrorist acts, soldiers wounded in overseas operations, veterans, orphans and war widows.

The collaboration between Univitis and Le Bleuet de France aims to combine the commemoration of the past with a concrete commitment to those who have sacrificed so much for the nation. Each bottle of Cuvée 1944 will contribute to this effort, with Univitis donating €0.50 to the association. This financial support aims to reinforce the noble mission of Bleuet de France and provide essential support to the association’s beneficiaries.

Each purchase of the cuvée spéciale represents more than just a simple acquisition of wine; a significant gesture of solidarity with those who served and suffered for freedom.

Le Bleuet de France

Testimonial from Romain Villard, CEO of Univitis and former member of the Forces Spéciales

Beyond the vines and tanks, the soul of Cuvée Spéciale lies in the personal commitment of Univitis CEO Romain Villard. A former member of the Special Forces, Romain brings a unique perspective to this project.

After training as a non-commissioned officer in the French Navy in Brest at the Maistrance school, Romain spent 10 years as a Commando Marine, with the pseudonym “Flo” and qualifications as an operational jumper and diver. His career took him all the way to Afghanistan for the Ares 6 mission, where on October 4, 2005, he was wounded by the enemy during an operation.

Romain Villard, Directeur Général d’Univitis

« As a holder and beneficiary of the “Anciens Combattants” card, I was determined to develop a joint project with the Association Le Bleuet de France. I’m thinking mainly of the 177 men of the Commando Kieffer (with a special thought for Léon Gautier, whom I had the opportunity to meet when I received my Green Beret and at other ceremonies), our American, Canadian and British allies. This vintage honors and supports our war wounded and the families of our fallen. I am of course thinking of loyal comrades Strong (Jonathan Lefort) who fell in Kapisa, Loïc Lepage, Arnaud Beltrame and so many others… victims of acts of terrorism, wards of the nation…”.»

This cuvée goes beyond being simply a wine; it represents a tribute and support for the wounded in war, the families of the missing and all victims of acts of terrorism. But it also serves as a lever for development for our winegrowers, who are facing major difficulties due to the current challenges in the world of agriculture. This creation is a shared product, conveying common values between Univitis and Le Bleuet de France: resilience and fighting spirit.
